Reportage in the secret haciendas of Yucatán

Far from the traditional tourist tours, historic haciendas provide a haven of peace and splendid starting point for exploring the colonial cities Yucatec and pre-Columbian sites.

In the early morning, the sun is still low but the heat already suffocating milky atmosphere. The village woke at dawn. Mayan women dressed in immaculate white robes through the central square. Younger abandoned the traditional dress for the uniform of the day: t-shirt, and flip flops Minishort. More likely, less graceful. Kids off to school plays soccer with a makeshift ball. Small shops and craft workshops, lined the main street, have not yet opened, except groceries, epicenter of the village, after the church, of course. The smell of dust mingles with firewood, which boils the pot or golden corn pancake. Ordinary life of shrapnel in Temozon Sur, Yucatan, Mexico.

All the properties of the peninsula, the Hacienda Temozon, formerly the most productive in henequen (sisal local name), is the most majestic. Imposing building with taped oxblood walls white, opalescent strangely beautiful in the early morning light.
